 The climate is, I think, the best on the planet! As a 15-year resident, I can only tell you that this is a wonderful place to live. There are several districts of Santa Monica: Montana Avenue, a trendy & fun shopping and eating district. 3rd Street Promenade, a fun and exhilarating stretch of shops, restaurants, movie theaters and a major mall! It has street artists dancing and playing great music on every block! Main Street is a wonder, more low-key district. It, too, has great shops and restaurants. We are a small city with our own government and public transportation system. Our northern border is with Pacific Palisades and Brentwood; Our southern border is with Venice; Our eastern border is with West LA and our western border is with the Pacific Ocean! We have had a tremendous influx of the entertainment industry which has given a shot-in-the-arm to our already robust economy. Our much-sought-after schools are, in part, responsible for our perpetually strong real estate market.

Be very clear about the features you want in a home, describing what elements are essential to you and where you are willing to compromise.
When you start looking at homes, you may find that the available homes in your price range require much more of a financial commitment than you were prepared to make. Let your agent know if you are willing to consider alternative mortgage options to increase your buying power. Discuss the possibilities for buying in an area you had not previously considered. Would you consider a house with the same amenities in a different neighborhood, a "handyman special", a smaller yard or fewer bedrooms? An open mind and honest communication are crucial ingredients as you work with your real estate agent to find the best possible home for your needs.
